Upon returning, I enrolled and completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Arlington. I paid my way through school by digging pools in our HOT Texas weather, but that was a strong motivation to finish school as soon as possible! During this time, I met the love of my life, April. She completed her Master’s Degree in Accounting though was quick to tell her father that she wouldn’t marry someone that had SO much school remaining! Fortunately, I convinced her otherwise, and we have been married for 15 years and have 4 wonderful children. We joke that her long-term investment [in me] paid off.

How I Started In Dentistry

I came to dentistry because of my desire to be in a field where I could help others! I attended Baylor College of Dentistry in downtown Dallas, and quickly fell in love with changing smiles. I took extra courses, completed research, and even got an award for esthetic achievement! I graduated top of my class though the learning never stopped . I have continued to take a steady stream of courses devoted to enhancing the smile and am obsessed with getting the best smile for my patients!

Helping improve a smile is so rewarding! The reaction is immediate and natural – a smile you cannot hold back! Some have spent years not fully smiling, slowly disguising and hiding their teeth. It’s an awe inspiring process to be a part of helping patients gain confidence – where their SMILE says it all!

Creating the perfect smile begins early! Ideally, we want to help grow and develop a young patient’s jaw to the correct shape and position for all their teeth to fit in their mouth. It’s never too late, as my wife will attest to having braces in her 30s. The same principles apply to adults including Orthodontics without extractions. My family and I moved to Kansas City as I began my dental career. We have so many fond memories of family and friends. And one thing has remained STRONG – my love for BBQ. In KC, I learned that there are others in this fine country who are equally passionate about BBQ! While Kansas City will contend that they have the best BBQ in the country, it is hard to beat the rubs from Texas. I LOVE to BBQ, and am looking forward to some friendly competition with Drs. Berlin and Lynch!

I also love trying weird and usual foods. I picked this up in Costa Rica, and if there is something strange on a restaurant menu, I have to try it. Half of the fun of traveling is finding new places to eat. Please feel free to share your local, and not so local, favorites with me when you come in. I am always looking for new delights !

My family is my first love. April and I have four kids; Tanner, Brooke, Rylee, and Asher who keep me busy outside of the office, going on all kinds of adventures. We love to swim, boat, hike, bike, raft, and explore. We play all kinds of games and invent our own when the need arises. They are much of my motivation for the things I have learned as I seek to better care for my growing family.

I met Dr. Berlin through the Heartland Esthetic Continuum, first as a student, and then helping run the hands-on course in the Kansas City area. I was happily practicing there when Dr. Berlin called to say they had a place for me in McKinney. It felt like coming home! How I could say no to the opportunity to practice with some of the best Doctors in the country, and contribute my expertise to the practice?
